Steve Donachie

Current host of the Butterfly Lightning series, Steve Donachie has been writing since the age of seven, when first challanged to use his spelling words in a narrative instead of a series of random sentences. He now works in multiple forms including the short story, poetry, novels and creative non-fiction. Memoir may be next -- but no drama or screen writing are on the horizon.

Though an admitted college dropout whose educational background was in computer programming, in recent years he has refocused his attention by attending writing workshops at Florida International University, the Seaside Writer's Conference, and the Bluegrass Writer's Workshop in Louisville.

His work has been rejected by many of the most prestigious literary magazines in existence, some of the editors of which sent nice little handwritten notes explaining how much they regretted their actions. He persists, however, encouraged by the example of people like Frank McCourt and Brewster Robertson who finally broke into print later in their lives.

He likes the Butterfly Lightning readings and others because, "reading aloud is the original form of publication, the telling of the myth, the recitation of the epic."
